Who we are

Hubzilla Maths (hubzillamaths.com) is an interactive learning platform for IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches. It is operated by Jamie Hubball. If you have any questions about this policy, contact: jamie@hubzillamaths.com

The short version

  • We collect your account details and your learning activity — including the answers you submit.
  • If you join a class, your teacher can see your progress and your submitted answers.
  • We use no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
  • We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • You can ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected or deleted, at any time.

What data we collect

Account details. When you create an account we collect your name, email address and password. The password is hashed by our authentication provider — we never see or store it in plain text.

Learning activity. As you work through lessons we record each answer you submit to an exercise — including incorrect attempts — together with when it was submitted, whether it was correct, and the marks earned, plus which sections and lessons you have completed. We use this to show your progress, and to estimate time spent learning from the timestamps.

Class membership. If you join a class using a join code, we record which class you belong to.

Problem reports. If you use the “report a problem” button we store your message, the address of the page you were on, your browser's user-agent string and — for exercise problems — the last answer you typed, so we can reproduce and fix the issue.

Preferences. Your light/dark theme choice is stored only in your browser. Your calculator-model choice is saved to your profile so it follows you across devices.

What we don't collect

  • No analytics or tracking. The site contains no analytics scripts, advertising trackers or social-media pixels.
  • No payment information. The site is currently free and we collect no payment details.
  • No location data.

How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To save and display your lesson progress and marks
  • To show teachers the progress of students in their classes (see below)
  • To send account-related emails (e.g. password reset)
  • To investigate and fix problems you report

We process this data because it is necessary to provide the service you sign up for, and — for problem reports and security — because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site working and safe. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who can see your data

  • You — your own progress, on your dashboard.
  • Your teacher, if you join a class. Entering a class join code gives that class's teacher access to your name, email address, progress and marks, an estimate of your learning time, and the answers you have submitted — including incorrect attempts. If you leave (or are removed from) a class, the teacher no longer has this access.
  • The site administrator — for operating the site and handling problem reports.

Nobody else can see your data.

Service providers

We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Each processes data only on our behalf, to provide the service:

  • Supabase — stores your account and learning data, and handles sign-in and account emails (e.g. password resets).
  • Vercel — hosts the website.
  • Cloudflare — delivers lesson videos and captions. Like any web host, it sees your IP address when your browser requests a video.
  • Resend — when you submit a problem report, a copy is emailed to us via Resend, including your email address so we can reply.

Your data is stored in the managed cloud infrastructure of these providers.

Cookies and local storage

We use only essential cookies: the session cookies that keep you signed in. There are no tracking or advertising cookies, which is why you don't see a cookie banner. Your browser's local storage holds two small preferences — your theme and your calculator model — which stay on your device.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account exists. You can reset your own progress at any time from your account page. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and all associated data within 30 days. Problem reports are kept only as long as needed to fix the issue.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your data
  • Complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the ICO)

To exercise any of these rights, email jamie@hubzillamaths.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for IB students, who are typically aged 16 and above. If you are under 16, please ensure a parent or guardian has reviewed this policy before you create an account. We collect the same minimal data from all users and never use anyone's data for advertising or profiling.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
